Airport recognized for its efforts
YSJ among the first to receive international accreditation
Saint John – The Saint John Airport (YSJ) has been recognized for its efforts to provide a safe and healthy environment for its employees and passengers. The Airports Council International awarded YSJ’s accreditation this week.
“This designation means a lot at this time, as airports and airlines around the world are responding to the impacts and continued challenge of COVID-19,” says YSJ President and CEO Derrick Stanford. “This accreditation acknowledges our efforts to provide a safe airport experience for all travelers which is in line with the recommended health measures established in the ACI Aviation Business Restart and Recovery guidelines and ICAO Council Aviation Recovery Task Force Recommendations, along with industry best practices.”
The Airports Council International Airport Health Accreditation programme accreditation process is based on guidelines that include cleaning and disinfection, physical distancing (where feasible), staff protection, physical layout, passenger communication and passenger facilities.
“We’ve worked hard to receive this accreditation. And we’ll continue working hard to reassure the travelling public that we are doing everything to ensure our airport is at the top of its game for health and safety – now, and in the future when travel restrictions begin to lift,” adds Stanford. “This year has been like no other but we are determined to move forward, adjust to the circumstances, and get back to our growth plan as soon and as safely as possible.”
As a privately run and owned organization, the Saint John Airport experienced significant growth in travel pre-COVID. In 2019, more than 280,000 passengers travelled through YSJ, maintaining the record-breaking growth achieved in the two years prior.
