Sliding at YSJ discouraged this season
Saint John – YSJ is discouraging sliding on airport property this winter, the authority announced today. The move is coming as a direct result of increased construction activity related to YSJ’s airfield modernization project.
“Keeping people safe is a top priority for us at the airport. It’s a mandate that extends from air travellers to employees to community members,” YSJ President and CEO Derrick Stanford said. “This year the activity and equipment associated with construction has elevated the risk such that we’re discouraging sliding on airport property for the season.”
As in years past, there is no parking on the side, or any part, of the airport service road. Emergency and airport maintenance vehicles need constant, unobstructed access. Vehicles in violation will be ticketed.
“Sliding at the airport has been a fun family tradition for many years,” Stanford said. “We’re hopeful that once our modernization project and all associated construction is complete, we’ll be able to return to welcoming sliders and their families.”
