YSJ IS FIRST AIRPORT IN CANADA TO INSTALL A UPOD FOR BUSINESS TRAVELLERS
SAINT JOHN, NB – Saint John Airport Inc. is installing a mobile work station, called a UPOD, inside the airport’s main terminal that allows business travellers to stay productive while on-the-go.
“We’re excited to partner with USTATION, an Atlantic Canadian startup based in Saint John,” said YSJ President and CEO Derrick Stanford. “I’m pleased that the Saint John Airport has been selected as the first of three locations for the UPOD prototypes that will test this innovative concept. The UPOD will be incredibly convenient for the thousands of business travellers who fly through our airport every year.”
A UPOD is a self-contained, 4’x4’ mini-workspace that is equipped with the technology, comfort, and privacy of a full-sized office, providing convenience to mobile professionals who need to get work done while on the move.
“Our goal is to help people be productive,” said USTATION Founder and CEO Glen Hicks. “We understand how frustrating it is to lose valuable work-time when you’re travelling for business. The UPOD helps to remove some of the barriers experienced when trying to work in public spaces like an airport. The Saint John Airport UPOD will be equipped with high-speed internet, video conferencing capability, a computer and full-size monitor where users can connect their devices or login to their applications and get work done while waiting for their flight.”
The UPOD will be installed inside the main terminal building of the Saint John Airport in February, 2020.
As part of the Smart and Connected Innovation Challenge, USTATION was one of three companies to receive a $25,000 contribution from Economic Development Greater Saint John (EDGSJ) to test their proof-of-concept with customers. The UPOD project is a business solution in response to the growing population of mobile professionals that require technology-enabled, private spaces to conduct business when in public.
Business travellers may book the UPOD workstation located at the Saint John Airport via the USTATION app and must pay to use it in 30-minute increments. It can be accessed by both members and non-members of USTATION. To access the non-member app and view rates visit www.ustation.ca/upod.

USTATION is all about making people productive. It is a membership-based company with a growing network of inspiring, tech-enabled spaces so you can get to work. Founded in 2018, it is a privately held Canadian company based in Saint John, New Brunswick.
