Saint John Airport Reports Record-Breaking Passenger Traffic in 2017
2017 has been a record-breaking year for the Saint John Airport. I’m thrilled to announce that our year-end results show that YSJ has set a new all-time traffic record with 263,719 passengers in 2017. That’s a 5.2% increase over last year, and we’ve broken our existing all-time traffic record of 252,000 passengers the airport set back in 2015.
We attribute much of this growth in passenger traffic to our airline partners. In September we welcomed Porter Airlines; they now offer a daily non-stop direct flight from Saint John to Ottawa with follow-on service to Toronto Island Airport. Air Canada boosted capacity and added an extra daily flight to Toronto. And Sunwing offered flights to Cuba and the Dominican Republic.
In addition, the YSJ Team has worked hard to attract new passengers by investing in and improving user-experience. This year we held the Grand Opening of the YSJ Market and Duty Free store and became the second airport in the province to offer duty-free service, and the FIRST to offer a stand-alone, dedicated space for shoppers. In addition, we have upgraded the airport with major renovations. Inside we’ve replaced all three of our “Departures”, “Arrivals” and “Main” entrances. And we’ve given our Departures Lounge Area and our Washrooms much-needed makeovers. Outside in our Short Term Parking Area we now have nice new walkways, paving, improved traffic flow, and lighting, and we’ve replaced all the concrete curbing and pay stations.
But we still have work to do. While many people in Southern New Brunswick see the value in supporting their local Saint John Airport, some are driving to other nearby airports. We want to change this and are working hard to make the Saint John Airport your airport.
Myself and the YSJ Team would like to say THANK YOU to everyone who flew via the Saint John Airport this past year. We value your business and appreciate your continued support as we strive to create an even better passenger experience in the year ahead.
Looking forward to 2018, we estimate 300,000 travelers through the Saint John Airport. I hope you are one of them.
