SAINT JOHN, NB – The opening of a new duty-free store at the Saint John Airport was marked today with a special celebration for passengers, staff and representatives of the federal, provincial and municipal governments.
Saint John is the second airport in the province to offer the service, and first to offer a stand-alone, dedicated space for shoppers.
Airport President and CEO Derrick Stanford says, “We’re thrilled to offer such a unique duty-free experience – the first of its kind for New Brunswick. This new service is an example of some of the steps we’re taking to build our airport, contribute to our community and enhance passenger experience.”
Managed by Creative Duty Free Shops and designed to replicate the historic Saint John City Market, YSJ’s new 12’x12’ store is located post-security in the departures lounge.
It provides travelers leaving Canada with a duty-free shopping experience that includes tax-free shopping on popular brands – like East Coast Lifestyle – along with a currency exchange that will convert Canadian to US dollars. The store also offers passengers convenience items like food and drinks, magazines, Canadian and local souvenirs along with a wide assortment of travel necessities.
The Saint John Airport Market and Duty-Free will be open seven days a week for all domestic and international flights.
"We are excited to be part of the growth of the Saint John Airport and contribute to providing superior service and amenities that will leave all travelers with a memorable experience when departing Saint John," says Bonnie Gates, Creative Duty Free Shops Vice-President.
The Saint John Airport Inc. is a not-for-profit corporation serving air travel needs of 300,000 residents of southwestern New Brunswick spanning from Sussex to the Fundy Isles, and is a key element in the economic and social development of the region. All revenue of the Saint John Airport is reinvested in operations and facilities on-site.
