Travel with Cannabis
As of October 17, 2018, Cannabis has now become legal within Canada. In preparation for your flight, CATSA has released the details on travel with Cannabis:
Carry On Baggage: Yes
Checked Baggage: Yes
Cannabis for medical purposes: If the amount of cannabis you are carrying appears to be more than the legal limit for recreational possession (i.e. between 30g and 150g), be prepared to show medical documentation. Your documentation and the amount of cannabis you carry must be in accordance with the Access to Cannabis for Medical Purposes Regulations. For more information, see Health Canada’s Guide to Understanding the Regulations.
Recreational cannabis: A legal amount of recreational cannabis is permitted (30g or less). Cannabis oil is subject to the liquid restrictions – 100 ml (3.4 oz.) or smaller container permitted in carry-on.
If an amount greater than the legal limit is presented at a pre-board screening checkpoint or discovered during screening, protocol requires us to notify the police. This could lead to charges and prosecution.
Please Note: Flying outside of Canada with cannabis is illegal. For more information, visit https://travel.gc.ca/travelling/cannabis-and-international-travel
